How Much Homework?Sixth graders will typically receive a weekly assignment from both their math teacher and their language arts teachers. These assignments are handed out on Fridays and due the following Friday. We highly recommend chipping away at these assignments over the weekend as there are other assignments you will receive throughout the week. Students can use TA time, lunch/recess time to seek help from their teachers about these assignments.
On top of weekly assignments, all teachers (including specials teachers!) assign homework throughout the week. Some assignments may be things that are started in class but sent home to be completed. Some are assignments that will be graded, some are assignments that will be needed to participate in the following day's class. Homework CompletionAs a sixth grader, your homework completion will affect your Habits of Learning for the marking period in each class. Each teacher will keep track of your successful homework completion in Infinite Campus and every three weeks, Mrs. Benson will run a missing assignment report for all 5-8 graders. At that time, if you are missing three or more assignments in all classes combined, you and your TA will call home and explain to your parents what the assignments were and whether or not they are still needing to be completed. If you continue to have difficulty and miss 3 more in the next 3 weeks, Mrs. Benson will be calling home to set up a meeting with you, your parents and Mr. Griggs. At this meeting, you, your parents and Mr. Griggs will troubleshoot the problem and help get you back on track.
Homework ClubWe do offer a quiet space after school to complete homework. More details, as well as the starting date, will be coming after the first two weeks of school.
